Ok, please ignore everyone who says the therapist will tattle on you. I don't know if school guidance counselors are required to tell your parents, but my therapist is not under certain conditions. The rules my therapist has to follow are if I am a danger to myself or other people, then he must tell. That means if I have a plan to kill myself or kill someone else, he has to say something. However, if I say I feel like dieing, want to die, want to cut myself, or whatever, he won't. He asks if he can check my wrists every week, and sometimes I don't show him. Sometimes therapists overreact or must tell because of your age. I am 17, and although he can tell authorities if I become a danger, he can not talk to my parents, partly out of respect to me. Tell your therapist you want to talk about it first, and then maybe later, when you are more comfortable, then you will consider having a session with your parents. Tell her that telling your parents will betray your trust and that you will show her your cuts every week if she wants. If she asks how you are in the next session just say there is something that is hard for you to talk about but something that you want her to know and go from there. Health Question & Answer

Just go in there and tell them you need to talk. But Dont expect them to keep it private! if they feel somebody is endangering themselves, or other people they will just go blab all over the world.
Starting with your parents.

but yeah.. if you really like need to talk and need help [which you do, im sure you know] then just march in there and tell them. they're not going to turn you away at all. Just tell them whats wrong.

Well depends how old are you.? what type of counselor. If its jsut a school counselor and you tell them by law they have to tell your parents so if you dont want your parents to know dont tell them. I go person you could talk to is a pastor. But otherwise just walk right into a counseling office say you need help and you will get it. Ive done it and it worksHealth Question & Answer

Just open up, once you start to it will be so much easier to stop. As soon as you tell her you will just feel enormous relief. Don't try to hold back, if you wanna cry etc, they are so used to it! just tell the truth and be natural
good luck! xHealth Question & Answer

I agree I think that you should write it down if you have a hard time telling your counselor. I know it's easier to keep it a secret but if you want help then you need to discuss what's been going on with yourself. Health Question & Answer

She will tell your mom trust me.
But go to someone that you feel very close to and tell them if you want to keep it a secret from your mom. Health Question & Answer

Just tell him or her about it - write it down if you might find it easier.

By finding this out, s/he can help you better.Health Question & Answer
