To start, I highly disagree with many of the posters here. Antidepressants often do work for anxiety disorders. In fact, the 2 conditions are often interlinked. Many with major depression also feel lots of anxiety and viceversa. It doesn't always happen, but it does quite often.

Do NOT stop taking the medication without talking with your doctor!

Second, It is possible that you & the medication don't agree. That can cause extremely angry mood changes in people. You see the doc, he/she decides to take you off X and try Y. That happens sometimes.

Third, another possibility is that anger is carried along with your depression. Some people with major depression are very short and snappy with others. Not uncommon.

Write down how your feeling, events that are concerning to you (or others), etc. Call your psychiatrist (or M.D.) tomarrow and ask to speak with the nurse. Go over your concerns, and they'll tell you what to do from there. Chances are good that the doc is going to want to see you before any change in medication (dosage, alternative, or additional) is made. The sooner you voice your concerns, the sooner your Q's will be answered!Health Question & Answer

Do you know why you feel angry and aggressive.? Is there something triggering it or does it come out of the blue.? If you can't figure out why then it's probably a reaction to the medication. Depression doesn't necessarily come with anger and irritability. If it's something that is really bothering you then ask your doctor about switching to another medication. Sometimes you have to try more than one before you find the one that works for you. I took one antidepressant that freaked me out. It was horrible and it made me feel a lot worse than when I wasn't taking anything. also try doing cardio exercise and meditating. Those two things help a lot with the stress. I know that from personal experience. Go with your gut, if you feel the medication is making you feel worse tell your doc you want to try something else. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

Anger can be a good thing. It means that you are not as depressed as you were--you're on your way up out of the pit. Anger can be the thing that changes how you look at things--can bring you out of the victim/life sucks mode. Depression is the bottom of the pit. Its where fear, grief, despair and powerlessness live. Let yourself feel angry, just don't harm yourself or anyone else with your anger. Get some excercise to work through it. It will show you where you need to go--what your next step is. Anger is part of the healing process..Health Question & Answer

Generally anti-depressants are not dispensed for an "anxiety disorder" as this is a whole other portion fo the brain. It would depend on the meds you are on. But talk to your psychiatrist, as this may not be the right med for you. There are a vast aray of meds for anxiety. Health Question & Answer

Yes that is very possible. I'm 16 and I have been on antidepressants for three years now and every once in a while I get very angry for no reason. I recommend going onto www.webmd.com and looking at the information under the certain antidepressant that you are taking.Health Question & Answer

It could be a side effect. If it's really bothersome and doesn't lessen or stop after the dose is regulated I would switch medications.
