Wow, find a new doctor.

It does not sound at all like you were manic, and antipsychotics are SERIOUS drugs. They can really mess up your brain. The only reason anyone takes them is because their psychosis is worse than the brain damage that antipsychotic drugs cause. But you sound completely coherent and rightfully worried about this new diagnosis.

Antipsychotics are not like taking a Xanax. They shouldn't be handed out like candy to patients who don't even have any symptoms of psychosis. They can give you permanent nerve damage, cause cataonia, drooling, slurring, all kinds of scary and damaging stuff.

I'm going to say it one more time, and I really really hope you do so: find a different doctor before this one fries your brain.Health Question & Answer

I would recommend you to watch following DVD that is available online if you have fast internet. It's told by psychiatrists, psychologists and people who worked for pharmaceutical companies. It informs you - beside other things - about side effects that are not often being told by psychiatrists. It also suggests an alternative in the end. When you then make a decision to take antidepressants, you may be better prepared, educated and understand what's going on when you encounter some bad side effects. I would say that these information are actually vital.
