First, Greg is right. The VA is supposed to provide help for families of Veterans with PT SD.

also the Family Readiness and Support unit of the National Guard is available to National Guard Families and also should provide support for families of soldiers on active duty. Some states have done better than others in implimenting this program.

The best thing anyone can do is to educate themselves on the topic. A lot has been written about this serious situation. Two recommended sites: www.patiencepress.com and http://www.ncptsd.va.gov/ncmain/index.js...

The first site is by Ms Patience Mason the wife of a Vietnam Veteran with PTSD. For this reason the focus is on the family in addition to the veteran. The second site is by the National Center for PTSD at the VA. In addition to information about rights to VA services for veterans and thier families there is a lot of good information about soldiers and the situation of their families.

This is a very serious problem and knowledge is your best tactic in getting help. I am a Vietnam Veteran with many friends who have dealt with this problem.Health Question & Answer

The VA should provide counseling, if not they should be able to give you a referral to someone reputable and knowledgeable in PTSD.Health Question & Answer
