Can insomnia exist within teenagers/pre-teens?!

Question: Can insomnia exist within teenagers/pre-teens.?
It's 2.08 A.M where I'm at right now and I have yet to fall asleep for the past two days. I'm not even slightly tired. Being 13 years old, is this abnormal for a child my age.? I haven't even had large amounts of caffeine, just one cup of coffee this morning. Please help. My brother says Benadryl gets you to sleep but I don't want to take any medicine other than medicines such as Tylenol P.M, etc. which I don't have at the house.

Are there any methods of sleeping that you can lend to me.?

Oh, by the way, one more odd thing. I'm horrified of the dark. It's an odd fear instilled in me since birth. The darkness terrifies me. So... I always fall asleep with the TV on. So... anyway. Please help!

Thank you!Health Question & Answer

It is abnormal for a person of any age to feel wide awake at 2 a.m., unless you've been on a schedule where you've been waking up late and going to sleep late. You might want to try the Benadryl and see how it works. The active ingredient in Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is actually the same ingredient that induces sleepiness in Tylenol PM.Health Question & Answer

The symtoms of insomnia are difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep. When you are awake you are functional but impaired. Some complain about not being able to close their eyes, and sometimes cant rest their minds. If I were you I would go to the doctor, and ask them if they think you are an insomniac. Mainly because it is hard to tell if you have true insomnia.Health Question & Answer

Anxiety can keep anyone up. Try to relax and figure out what relaxes you reading, warm milk, cam. tea, bath, etc. Sometimes teens who don't get enough exercise struggle to sleep and working out even walking can helpHealth Question & Answer

Yes insomnia is very common in people your age and other ages! A doctor gave me some advice on how to sleep better, I remember a few of the things he said. You should not lay in bed while you are reading or watching TV or anything, just lay in bed when you are trying to sleep. And you should turn your clock so it is facing away from you so you can't see what time it is while you are trying to fall asleep. I can't remember the rest. Maybe you can do a google search for some tips. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

You shouldn't take any type of sleep aids right now you are too young and you can become dependent on them. I too am afraid of the dark and of silence so I sleep with the TV on. I find it can hinder me falling asleep. I suggest turning the sound off on the TV, we tend to get involved in what is on TV instead of sleeping, or having a night lite. I count backwards sometimes from 99 down, or I read. That always puts me to sleep.
Are you tired during the day.? Do you take naps.? just curious.Health Question & Answer
