Why do I shave my head whenever I get stressed?!

Question: Why do I shave my head whenever I get stressed.?
I always dislike hair of any kind... if I had the time to shave my whole body regularly I would. Under normal circumstances I can handle this weird compulsion but when I get stressed the thought of shaving my head is overwhelming and eventually overtakes my sensibility. Afterwords I almost feel free (cliche, I know, but it is the best way I can think of to describe the feeling). Is there a name for this.?Health Question & Answer

You are who you are. We're all different. Some might call it OCD, but why bother.? If it helps you feel better and it isn't hurting anyone or yourself, it's ok. Maybe you feel like a clean shaved head represents orderliness in your life and it's comforting. When I used to get depressed, I'd cut my hair shorter. It went from being down to my waist, to being an inch long in a year's time. But it made me feel better, like getting rid of a burden. It's totally symbolic. I had a roommate in college who couldn't settle down to write a paper until her entire desk (and sometimes the whole apt) was totally clean, orderly, and spotless. Sometimes I feel like I can't think if there's dirty dishes in the sink. We all have our idiosyncrasies. Take care.Health Question & Answer

obsessive compulsive disorder
commonly characterized by intrusive, repetitive thoughts resulting in compulsive behaviors and mental acts that the person feels driven to perform, according to rules that must be applied rigidly, aimed at preventing some imagined dreaded event. In severe cases, it affects a person's ability to function in every day activities. The disorder is often debilitating to the sufferer's quality of life. also, the psychological self-awareness of the irrationality of the disorder can be painful. For people with severe OCD, it may take several hours a day to carry out the compulsive acts.

Experts believe OCD is related to levels of a normal chemical in the brain called serotonin. When the proper flow of serotonin is blocked, the brain's "alarm system" overreacts. Danger messages are mistakenly triggered. Instead of the brain filtering out these unnecessary thoughts, the brain dwells on them
