Question: Prozac or Zoloft.? I have generalized anxiety disoder and...?
I am 35 weeks pregnant and have been dealing with some depression and high anxiety so my doctor wants to put me on prozac but I have heard a lot about zoloft too. I get weird thoughts (which I believe is mixed between the hormones and depression) and again just depressed and highly anxious all the time causing lots of physical symptoms. I sometimes get weird thoughts like "What if I started doing this and hurt somebody.?" But I know its because I'm scared to hurt somebody or I'm scared to lose somebody and my husband says its my way of dealing with the thoughts and everyone has them but I get guilty and dwell on them. Normal.? also, again, my dr wants to put me on an antidepressant before the baby comes, which I totally think is the right thing to do, and she perscribed me prozac because I have taken it before but I'm just curious on your outakes. If you have taken prozac has it worked for your anxiety and depression.? If you have taken zoloft did it help for your anxiety and depression.? Thanks mucho!Health Question & Answer

I am a therapist, and I also have generalized anxiety disorder, smong some other mental disorders, that I control with medicaions, im not sure what you can take while your prgnant but usually if you suffer from both anxiety and depression then you need to take a mood stabilizer ontop of the other medications. Lamictal is a great one it seems to work for alot of people. also I never found prozac to work for me, i used celexa during my pregnancy and then switched to lexapro. Just some suggestions. Good luck with your baby, it is natural to have weird throughts when your pregnant, everyone does. I had the weirdest drems and though about the weirdest things, like stuff I never thgouht of in my life. Toward the end of my pregnancy if I was driving, and someone would walk in front of me, I woudl think about hitting them with my car, it sounds crazy but it went away the second I had my son, and I was myself again, so maybe wait until after you have your baby to even think about medication, unless you have a history of anxiety ro depression. I have always had anxiety my whole life, so I knew I needed medication, but some people dont. The other thing you should watch for if you take zoloft watch out for the nightmares, it gave me the most descriptive horrible nightmares everynight. I had to switch medications because I would have a dream that someone was stealing my son, taking him from his crib, they wer very graphic dreams, and they didnt start until I took the Zoloft and they stopped as soon as I stopped taking it. Im sorry I know this is alot of info, I just wanted to give you a little information on everything, I know what its like to be prwgnant and feel like your going crazy, but I promise you your not the only one. prozac was terriable for me... ive tried a few others but i was put on cetelopram for my anxiety and depression, it cerntainly got my wild thoughts under control. Health Question & Answer
