Of course the decision to tell people is yours. I am sorry you are depressed, but I am very glad you are mature enough to get counseling. With counseling you will get the tools you need to work your way out of depression.

Your mother might not react the way you think. Sometimes what we assume is not quite right. And not talking with your dad is part of your depression, so it might be good to tell him and share your feelings. He may not know how to talk with you. Just be sure when you do talk to him, to say "I feel" and not "I think". Let him know your feelings.

I don't at all pity my friends who get counseling because all it is is educating the mind to do something, which is the same thing as college actually! I think people who recognize a problem and work to solve it are smart. Your friends might feel the same way.

But what people think is secondary to you getting your tools.
The final decision as to whether to share your adventure with your family and friends is yours.

I hope you feel much better soon.

Do what feels right to you. Talking to friends and family may seem difficult, but building a strong social network with people you trust can be really helpful when you are going through something like this. Take care of yourself, and don't do anything that you don't want to! If you want to tell them, then sit down with them, be honest, and let them know right away that you don't want them to act nice etc. just because you are depressed. That you want them to treat you the same, but that you just needed to talk/felt they should know, etc.

Good luck and take care!Health Question & Answer

A lot of people takes med even if its not that bad so don't worry. Friends will all act different. I hope they do care. My friends didn't even try to talk to me when i was in the hospital for anorexia they totally inorge my messages. I understand about you want your life back its hard to remember how you used to be so happy are care free. If you get a cousouler and take meds i think you can achive it. Therapy has help me a lot more than my meds have. If you ever need to talk i understand been dealing with anxiety, depression and this eating disorder since i was about 8. I wish you the best!Health Question & Answer

Oh dear talking to people is the best thing you could do for yourself!!! It may be hard at first, but it will help you in the end & YOU ARE WHAT MATTERS! I suggest to talk to the person you can trust the most & lean on them for support. You can do this, but shouldn't do it alone! Good luck!Health Question & Answer
