Feeling suicidal help?!

Question: Feeling suicidal help.?
Ok so I've been diagnosed by a psychologist with major depression and I'm taking 20mg of lexapro, but I still feel suicidal. And it's not that my life it so bad(it's actually really good compared to the starving kids in africa) it's just that I think that life is boring and pointless. I just don't enjoy life at all, and I'm curious to know what's after death. I've had about 5 suicide attempts(they all were extremely pathetic) but I don't want to die to hurt my family...but sometimes when they yell at me and call me a fatass then I feel like they don't care and love me...please help. I'm seeing a therapist but i only go every two weeks...Health Question & Answer

At this rate, do what makes you even remotely happy or appreciative of life. Do whatever you want; just keep yourself alive! There is much to live for, and if your family is bringing you down, ignore them! I hope you realize that you are not alive just to keep your family happy.
And, you've said that your life is good compared to starving kids in Africa; why don't you go and help out the community or something like that.? Your life is not pointless or useless, and if you can't seem to enjoy it yourself, then help others!

And about the medicine - if it is not working for you, then tell your doctor about it. that's what he/she is there for!Health Question & Answer

"Ok so I've been diagnosed by a psychologist with major depression"

Please realize that it is only the depression talking. YOU do not want to kill yourself ... the depression is interfering with your brain making you think that you want to. DO NOT do it. If you harm yourself, there is no going back -- just give the medication and the therapy time to work. If you feel immediately suicidal, please seek help at a hospital emergency room so that they can ensure your safety until you are feeling better. They can also give you medications that should quickly make you feel better.

Best of luck, and remember that people DO care about you, even if they show it in odd ways, or don't appear to show it at all.Health Question & Answer

Do not kill yourself! I want to know what happens after you die also but i would not take my life. It does not only affect you, it hurts everyone! Your family, friends everyone who knows you! Even people who hate you!. Don't take offense when they call you names, they will always love you! Your life is not boring! Take risks, live large! I do not know who old you are but i bet that you have along one a head of you! Please, please, when you have a suicidal thought, stop and think about all the people you would be hurting...!!Health Question & Answer

Sounds like you have a very supportive family. ( NOT )
If you are over weight try to do something about it.
If not your family is your problem looking at this wonderful life.
Have you even told your therapist about this name calling.?
If not make sure that you tell them the next time you talk to him/her.

You have a family problem, maybe you could talk to one or the other of your parents. The one that might listen.
Tell them how you feel, and about the name calling.
Get them where you both can be alone .
Good luck.Health Question & Answer

Life can bring a person's mental state down at times, but if you keep fighting through it will eventually be better. When you've hit rock bottom the only way is up xD. You should also try new hobbies and stop doing the same old things. If you think of committing suicide again call a hotline, or just think that many people will be effected based on your actions,
Hope this helpsHealth Question & Answer

I know how you feel. I dont have any major reason for depression but often at times when im alone or just thinking to myself i see no point in living. Just think of how sad your friends and family would be without and you try to think positive. Join a sports team or something to keep you active. Its what i do. DEFINATELY dont do drugs, just makes it worse. Trust me.Health Question & Answer

ur parents dont hate u. i know how u feel. u feel like nothing goes ur way. like no-one loves u. like life is pointless.like ur siblings get more attention than u. they just get angry and say stuff they dont mean all the time. my parents do. talk to ur mum, or therapist about going more that once every two weeks to see ur therapist. and if that dosnt work then ask ur doctor if there's any type of medicine that can help u with suicidal thoughts. very best of luck and merry christmas. xxHealth Question & Answer

Not all anti-depressants have the outcome that they are supposed to. You need to talk to your therapist and tell him/her how you are feeling and maybe increase your dose or change medications...whatever you do you need to do it right away...suicidal ideation is notheing to mess around with.Health Question & Answer

How long have you been on the Lexapro.? If it's been more than a month or two, you should probably talk to your therapist about changing the dose or switching meds. If it hasn't been that long, you need to give it more time. Antidepressants can take a while to kick in.Health Question & Answer

First thing, good for you for reaching out for help! It's great that you are aware of what's going on, what you're feeling like, and that you're not afraid to ask for help.

Second, I'd encourage you to call your psychologist or counselor even though you might not have an appointment for a while. Leave a voice mail if you can't reach him/her immediately, and tell them about what's going on and that you're struggling with suicidal thoughts. Since they are aware of your situation and have experience working with you, they'll have the best ideas about strategies that you can use to start thinking and feeling better.

It totally sucks that your family isn't being as supportive and loving as you wish they were, but know that your life is valuable and you are loved! If you're looking for another place to find friendship and community, I suggest looking into a local church. If you search for ones that are 'evangelical Christian' you'll probably find one that's really friendly toward people who are new to the whole church thing and who are willing to be friends without having strings attached about you having to believe their religion. At the same time, they'll probably have some interesting ideas about life after death and living a life you can enjoy... good food for thought, at least. You might even be able to find a church group of people your own age, which will make finding new friends that much easier.

Lastly, hang in there! I was in a similar situation a few years back, but by asking for help, getting counseling, doing what the doctors suggested, and finding new friends and answers to my big questions at a local church, things turned around. It took a long time to work through all the issues, and I'm still dealing with some of them, but life is tons better and I'm able to enjoy all the good stuff about life even while I deal with the crappy stuff. For me it came down to realizing that all the stuff people say about "God loves you" was actually true. It's totally changed my life for the better. (You can check out needhim.org for a concise explanation of what I learned.)

Anyway, hope that helps.Health Question & Answer

If you've been taking the lexapro for like 3 weeks, then it's not working and you need to either increase the dose or try another med.

I'll give you my self-help tips for depression. They take the edge off. Thinking people don't love you is a symptom of the depression, so you have to remind yourself of that when you are thinking that.

standard depression tips (PRINT THIS OUT)

If your depression seems to be more of a problem in the winter, try to get more sun. You could have seasonal affective disorder, or SAD, or your depression could have a seasonal component. A light box is good if you can afford one (about $300 online, don't get it at a local store, they will charge more for a light 1/2 as bright). Since I will always have a mood disorder, I have put in extra windows, keep the drapes mounted so they don't cover them, make sure I spend a lot of time in southern rooms, painted the walls peach and yellow. I even have a skylight ( it helps a lot!!!!!)

Try meditation tapes like progressive muscle relaxation or guided imagery. They may seem silly at first, but they work!! They help reduce stress, which makes depression worse. See The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook for some that you can make a recording of.
***** #1 MOST HELPFUL TIP Go out with friends, and if you don't have any, find a club to join and MAKE yourself go until you actually look forward to it.
