I have really bad anxiety?!


Question: I have really bad anxiety.?
I have really bad anxiety, and I have an appt. with the psychiatrist today to get meds. But I have to describe how I am feeling. & last time i told the lady that everything that shouldn't freak me out freaks me out. She didn't understand what I meant. So how i can better describe my anxiety to the doctor, so he can understand what i mean.?Health Question & Answer

Be specific. If a car going by your house twice freaks you out and you start to feel panic then say that. Basically what they want to hear from you is how situations make you feel and think. If an authority figure( teacher, boss) calls on you to perform a task what happens to you.? What happens to your body.? What runs through your mind.?

The most important thing is that you be honest. If you are not honest and you try to hide things because you think they make you sound crazy or not normal then you will end up on the wrong meds. The dr. can not read your mind so you have to let him/her in and share. If you tell your doctor you have anxiety, he'll understand. To validate those feelings, the best way to describe it is how do you feel physically. Like, its hard to breathe, i get worked up, i get freaked out in this situation. Describe what you feel, and sometimes it helps to not think, just relax (i know its hard to do sometimes). The doctor is there to help you, but you also have to take his advice. Most people only go in just to get drugs, and think it will cure them. IT WONT. Drugs should go along with the respective therapy for you to fully recover. The people i know who have drugs, and refuse therapy, are not helped at all, and are now drug addicts. If you want to make yourself better, you should be prepared to get your feelings hurt and learn from it, because it will make you better in the end.Health Question & Answer

you could try writing down how you feel, i find it easier to write than to talk, keep a diary of how you are feeling, i suffer with anxiety and depression and it is a horrible thing to put up with, iv learnt to control it now. it my past that brought my anxiety on so i just don't think about it any more.
my doctor told me to write stuff down if it was easier and i did find it a hell of a lot easier!

I think you should put yourself in those "scary" situations and get a pen and paper...write how you are feeling down. That's what I am going to do. When I'm at the gas station with my husband and I'm sitting in the car..I'm gonna write down how I'm feeling..the people, the cars, the looks, lol. When I go to the bathroom at Walmart, I'm gonna jot down a few words on how I'm feeling too. I think that might help explain to your doctor.Health Question & Answer
