Does anyone know how much it cost for couseling...?!

Question: Does anyone know how much it cost for couseling....?
when someone has been suffering from post-traumatic stress for several years.? I was raped a few years ago by a sociopath who had been a friend. He used the threat that he would go after everyone I cared about if I told on him, and when I finally got up the nerve to tell on him to the police, he got out of jail less than 5 hours later and continued to threaten me until someone else got him put into jail for rape. I have lived in constant fear throughout a large part of the several years after wards, and since then my already slight tendency toward depression has turned into something I cannot control. I have been fighting off feelings of suicide all day, my marriage is about to fall apart from the feelings that still remain, and I just turned a family member against me today. I don't know if I can afford medical care, but I'm scared about what even getting medical care will do to my chances on getting into nursing school. I'm in a big amount of pain, so do you think I will be prescribed medication.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
There are rape crisis centers who can recommend specific counselors in your area. also, there are mental health centers operated by the county that work on a basis of what you can afford. Depending on your income, sessions could be free or minimal. Even crisis pregnancy centers can recommend things for you.

They will determine whether medication would be helpful in your situation. It's not always indicated & depends on the type of depression & anxiety. Meds can be very helpful & the course of meds might be relatively short. Since you already had a tendency twd depression b4 the rape, it's likely you'll get meds. Combination talk-therapy & meds work very well. In fact, many communities, churches, etc have small group therapy for ppl who've gone through similar situations & these are usually free. (One of the biggest breakthroughs I ever had regarding my own teenage rape was 15 years later in a group setting listening to a woman talk about her experience.)

While the general population might be stereotypical in thinking of psychotropics or mental illness, professionals know the difference...so don't worry about seeking treatment & that having an effect on your chances of getting into nursing school. Being treated for this is a legitimate medical condition; it's no different than being treated for an infection or other illness. In fact, I don't see any reason why it would come up at all when applying for school. I know of ppl who have been committed to psychiatric hospitals & still get great jobs. Don't worry, it's not a blemish on your 'permanent record.' In fact, your personal experiences will come in very handy as a nurse; I'm sure you'll be very empathetic.

In the meantime, journalling your thoughts & feelings on a daily basis will help. It will help you sort out your thoughts; getting them on paper is part of processing them. I found mine helpful to look back upon to see how much I'd learned about myself & how far I'd come.Health Question & Answer
