I always think im going to get sick..?!

Question: I always think im going to get sick...?
So one night back in 8th grade I had this HORRIBLE stomach pain. Like..unimaginable. I was crying and and was rolling around in the fetus position to make it stop. My Mom took me to the ER and they gave me some stuff and just said I was constipated. I was fine for the next couple of months or so. Then one night the same pain happened again. I just laid in bed for a little and told myself I was going to be okay. I finally fell asleep and then obviously, I was fine. After a couple nights of the same thing happening I started to realize this was basically ruining my life.

Now whenever we go on a field trip..family trip..or anywhere, I ALWAYS think I'm going to get sick. I even skipped out on a fieldtrip for school because I thought this was going to happen. It's not even like a stomach cramp or anything. It's the worst feeling ever imagined..

It's just this overwhelming feeling of pain. Like..not really pain..just this horrible feeling. It feels like you're helpless and there's nothing anyone can do for you. The thing is, I know it's all in my head! I get so mad at myself sometimes for basically ruining my own life. It's so horrible and I just wish it would go away. I know it's not real and it's only my mind playing tricks on me, but I don't know how to stop it. Every night when I go to bed I always try to fall asleep as fast as I can because I know..if I lay there long enough I'm going to get 'sick.' It's so ridiculous and I just don't know what to do anymore. I've told my Mom I need to go see a psychiatrist or SOMEONE for this..but we've never really taken anything into action. Does anyone have any help for me...? I'm tired of ruining my own life.Health Question & Answer

Sometimes anxiety can make us feel like we are going to get sick. This has happened to me. When I was young I would wake up in the middle of the night feeling like I was going to throw up. I somehow would manage to calm myself down enough so that I could go back to sleep. When I woke up in the morning I felt OK. I realized it had to do with nerves and not being sick. Try to take charge of how you feel. When you feel nauseous, try to relax all the muscles in your body. Close your eyes and breathe slowly. I hope you will be doing better soon. Are you allergic to milk or milk products.? I found out that to be my problem. Like after drinking a big chocolate malt, I would get so sick to my stomach. Now I just avoid most dairy products and if I do have some, I try to take one of those over the counter lactose tolerant pills you can buy and they aren't expensive. You just take them while eating or drinking any milk product, or you can go to soy milk products, and they make ice cream with soy too.
If you aren't allergic to milk products, you may be experiencing some kind of panic anxiety, and a psychologist could help you with that. Since you got sick once, now you think you will everytime in that situation. You'll have to learn to control your mind and thoughts.
Get it taken care of before it takes control of your life. You'll be okay and good luck!Health Question & Answer

Firstly, it does sound like you might have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which can be diagnosed after intense pain just below your stomach and constipation (I know, it hurts like Hell and people who don't have it don't realise!). You might want to see your GP and get some medication, I have medication that stops my bowel going into spasm (which is what causes the pain).

Secondly, sounds a little like anxiety, which I've also had (we're peas in a pod!). I do think you should see a therapist to get some help with this, although you might find that just taking some pain relief with you at all times will ease your paranoia of the pain. I have periods of paranoia myself, so I know how you feel, and just talking to someone who knows what they're doing can really help. Good luck!Health Question & Answer
