How can i sleep faster at night.?!


Question: How can i sleep faster at night..?
okay so i sometimes have this problem at night. i try going to sleep but somehow i cant go to sleep.. can you guys/gals pls not answer this by saying taking pills...

First off - make sure all externals are ideal.

Room temperature is cool (60/65 degrees), comfortable bed, had a light snack before bed, warm glass of milk. To help relax, take a warm bath (which will help blood circulation).

In regards to an overactive mind, I have the same problem. Some nights it's fine, others it keeps me up for hours.

Things I've done: start my dream off (sort of like the opening scene to the future dream), imagined myself sleeping, clear my mind (although I practice self-hypnosis which is extremely helpful - I would recommend looking into that or meditation for clearing your mind), listen to relaxing music (Jack Johnson), recite really boring materials (i use a philosophy textbook).

Start preparing yourself for bed an hour or two before you want to go to bed. Cut out the caffeine about two hours before bed and make sure you do not exercise before bed. also prepare yourself and your environment for sleep. Get comfy, relax, turn down music, lights, and television. also if you have a tv in your room, try not to watch it at night, or simply move it out of your room. Sometimes relaxation music or white noise can also help. Meditation is also a good way to relax and unwind before going to bed. Try to remain active over the course of the day, have straight and ordered eating habits. If you have stress issues then work on getting them handled. Make excercise.

Practice mind relaxation when its time to sleep, prepare your mind to slowly stop all thinking, all worrying. Maybe reading a book (no TV please) can help focusing on a single subject/story until your eyes get tired.

Just turn the light off (dont get up, this will slightly affect your blood pressure and heart rythm, which will make it hard to get past the first stage). Close your eyes and clear your head. Imagine all of what it comes to your mind just floating away. Let things go, dont keep them, get rid of "talking thinking" and go to images, start imagining anything you find relaxing, a color, a sunset, a flag plapping to the wind, the beach... and then start focusing less in thinking words and more about feeling. Feel the sheets agains your feet, hear the wind outsite, and just let go of everything, flow with your senses. Concentrate on the cricket sound outside, imagine the cricket, imagine it hopping, then flying, then it becomes a dragon, then a bird..... just let subconcious take over. Flow, feel, flow.
