Question: My dad won't stop smoking even though I told him that it the smoke makes me sick .. what do I do.?
I spend all my time locked up in my room with the windows open and the fan going (in freezing weather) just to get rid of the smell ... I can't stand it ... it makes me physically ill to be in the house because of his chain smoking. He just ignores me everytime I tell him how I feel ... I'm too young to move out. Have you talked to your mother about this.? Maybe she could persuade your dad to give up the habit, or at least take it outside where the smoke won't bother you. Your dad is being very inconsiderate, and doesn't he know about the dangers of second-hand smoke.? If not, he needs to be educated. I don't know of a single parent who would deliberately expose a child to second-hand smoke. Aside from making you sick, it could eventually lead to a much worse side effect. I don't mean to scare you, but something needs to be done to protect your health and safety. If you can't talk to your parents, get some advice from your doctor or health specialist, or call the local Health Department. If they can't help you, then call Child Protective Services. I know it sounds harsh, but the dangers of all that smoke could have a very bad effect on you, and your father's ignoring the situation is a form of child abuse/neglect. It's all psychological. If you don't think about it, you won't get sick. You're like most non smokers. Always thinking something is wrong with them.
