Question: How can I convince my wife to take generic Zoloft instead instead of name brand.?
We have a $40 co-pay for name brand vs. a $15 for generic.
I personally know that the active ingredient is the same, and that's all that really matters. But, she feels like name brand is better. She claims its "stronger", and she is pretty insistent on it. Can I convince her otherwise, or should I just give it up .?Health Question & Answer

Not all generic drugs interact the same way as the original drug, even though they chemically are made the same. If you wife feels that the brand name medication works for her better than the generic, I'd suck up and pay the difference. Wouldn't you agree that your wife's mental health, using a medication she knows works for her, more important than saving a little money each month.?

Give her articles and information on generic vs. brand-name drugs (just Google "generic versus brand name drugs", you'll get a lot of hits). Brand names are more expensive because the companies need to recoup the costs of their testing trials and other expenses, not because the drug is any stronger than the generic brand. It's all marketing, not dosage strength. Just let her read it for herself, hopefully she'll side with you (and the many people who write about this stuff) after learning from many sources.Health Question & Answer
I took Zoloft when I lived in the States, and switched to the generic sertraline when I moved to Canada. I found no difference whatsoever in the new drug. It's the same chemical compound. I'd recommend switching to save money.Health Question & Answer
