How do you mentally recover from a major illness? ?!

Question: How do you mentally recover from a major illness.? .?
It seems to sap your mental/spiritual energy as well, where you're left not caring about anything, feeling like a total crab, and not being able to concentrate, do anything; it feels almost like you have clinical depression and what not. I had a bad case of the flu/bronchitis/mono, not all at once, but..close enough, for several months, which also gave me asthma episodes, and all sorts of things. I felt like I was going to die and during that time-frame just had to concentrate on "surviving, and resting." IN that time frame I still had to pay bills, work, do things, etc and the energy of everyone around me, family/friends, etc, was at lightning speed, and i couldn't keep up, wihch made me feel even more depressed. They also demanded that I keep up to par, which I just couldn't, and I'm wondering how one can mentally recover from an illness like that.?

It really does feel like your mind gets warped from it all, or maybe some of that has to do with all the meds/drugs they put you on.

Whatever the case may be, I feel like a former shell of myself and wanted to know if eventually your body also recovers mentally, or what.?Health Question & Answer

First of all. I do not consider those major. Anyway, I have had 23 operations in the span of 21 years, and I am only a 40 y o female ( white if that matters). The top 3 of them were major ( on my head), During this span I had always been passing out, breaking bones when I would pass out ( because I never knew when I was going to pass out). I dealt with throwing up ( they considered the possibilities of ulcers,etc... NO). I had ( and still have severe headaches). Numbness in my legs, and arms, and they would convulse, but I couldn't make it stop. After my last operation on my head ( they had to put an Omaya reservoir in my head - they put it in as temporary and that was 5 years ago) I literally woke up the next morning with my arms and legs convulsing. I couldn't make them stop and for 6 weeks my husband had to carry me around because the insurance did nit want to give me a wheel chair! They were positive that these were not seizures,it wasn't Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, etc. During this time I was throwing up about 4-5 times a day ( every day), finally regained a bit use of my arms ( not my legs),having panic attacks, high blood pressure, allergies to food that I could eat before, etc... Finally about 1 1/2 ago I went to the last neurologist that I would agree to see ( I had lost count on how many I have seen), and he said we are going to redo your EEG ( you have to sleep with wires hooked up to your head). He called me in and found out that I was indeed having seizures and that my entire left side of my brain was having constant seizures. This took care of most of my problems ( the throwing up and the use of my arms most of the time). I have to have my head drained ( I make up too much protein that builds up pressure) every 5 weeks ( they have to put a needle in my head to go into the omaya resevoir. That is no cake walk. During the time before the dr. found out what was wrong with me, I was at a point to where I just couldn't imagine going on. If you think your major illness is bad, think of others who cannot leave their illness in a week or two. I have kept a smile on my face, and no one that doesn't know me, has any idea that I have seizures (treated by meds. and severe headaches that do not ever go away even from the draining) I deal with my loss of my legs because I still kept my sense of humor. I am slower, and at first I felst like I was a burden to my family ( my son who is 20 y o, and my husband rock climb all the time), but they take me out and let me enjoy it.
