Question: When you are hooked up to a sugar/salt water IV in the hospital... calories.?
just before having an endoscopy, they hooked me up to sugar/salt water that went into my vein. did this have any calories.?

Did the sugar going in my veins have calories.?

You definitely don't get fat from the few calories in the IV, but yes, the idea of eating is that the food goes into your stomach and then digestion causes absorption into the blood stream so yes, the sugar has calories, just as if you ate it. I highly doubt that's the least of your worries if you're hooked up to an IV. Seriously, if you're so worried about calories that you'd beg the nurses and doctors to take you off of your critically vital IV because of them, I'd say you need to see a psychologist.Health Question & Answer

You shouldnt even be worried about that... all this is is replacing any fluids that you didnt have during your procedure and is vital. If you're that concerned about calories I think you should see a psychologist xHealth Question & Answer
