I have started taking iron pills because I have severe iron deficiency anemia. Ever since I started taking them, it feels like someone is taking a knife to my stomach. I can hardly stand up straight at times. Are the iron pills making me sick.?Health Question & Answer

Yes. A lot of people have trouble with iron pills. Usually they cause constipation and a black stool. It's best to get your iron from the foods you eat,such as eggs, spinach, beef, broccoli, raisins. If the pills are that upsetting to you, maybe your doctor can prescribe a different kind.
