Question: I know I already asked but I only got one answer about it and I need more facts..?
My friend says she has been taking her mothers antidepressants I don't remember what she said they were called some weird word that started with an L. Any way I know she is not really depressed but more just upset. Should I worry about her or is it safe to use them to just feel better. Any help
BTW
if it is bad how do you think I should help her with itHealth Question & Answer

First of all, no one should ever take anyone else's medication. Secondly she needs to go to a doctor if she thinks that she needs them, i think you should help her by telling her that she is putting her health in danger by taking medication that doesn't have her name on the bottle, and encourage her to talk to a professional if she really feels that she should be on them. The dosage of obviously for an adult woman, i don't know your friends age, but doctors prescribe medication doses based on the person they are medicating. She is being very stupid by taking them and is putting her life at risk. She needs to talk to a doctorHealth Question & Answer

Taking her mother's antidepressants is not safe. First of all, certain antidepressants taken by people under 21 can actually CAUSE depression and suicidal thoughts rather than prevent it. I'm not sure what she's taking, but it could be one of them.

also, antidepressants take weeks of consistent use to work effectively, so if she is just taking a pill every few days, it isn't really working for her anyway.

She sounds like she is reaching out to you for help. I would help her to talk to her mother, a counselor, anyone, and ask her to see a doctor or psychologist. If she truly is depressed, she can talk with someone certified in psychology, and/or be on antidepressants prescribed directly to her.

Best of luck.Health Question & Answer

Antidepressants will not make a person feel better unless they have the chemical imbalance that causes depression. I'd be surprised if they are helping your friend, and if they are it means she needs to see a doctor on her own. It is VERY dangerous to take any medication that is prescribed for another person because the dosage depends on many factors including what else the person is taking. It sounds awful but the best thing to help her would be to tell her mother what's going on.Health Question & Answer
