I have the same problem... lost my GF and now my best friends of 5 years are hers now too... so it's a bad situation for me... i stay up really late but never fall asleep til days/week later... try to exercise and exhaust yourself... do not eat before bed although its tempting... i have used nyquil (the recommended dosage) but i do not recommend doing it because you start to rely on it... it is a drug so don't abuse it... i posted this so that you won't go that route... I'd try exercising til exhaustion to see if it helps... plus you'll feel better in the morningHealth Question & Answer

Believe it or not, I have a couple of cups of (not too strong) coffee, but I load it up with a "ton" of light cream.

It also helps to gradually "wind down" the environment around you. Start by shutting off the brightest lights and turning down some volume. Let that be the "mid-evening" environment. As the night gets later, turn off a couple of lights altogether, but leave some still on. Maybe turn some volume (on tv's, radio's, etc.) even lower.

For the last half hour or hour before trying to sleep, turn off most of the lights; but just leave enough on so it feels "cozy". Listen to some soft music.

What I find is that this kind of gradual "shifting" of the environment/mood over the course of a night helps create a naturally calmer mood.

I go for a walk a bit before bed, have shower, then read a light book (fantasy, comedy) in bed while I drink a hot chocolate and have calm music playing.

Write a list of the things you need to do the next day before you go to bed, if being busy is what is stressing you out.
