Safe ways to let out anger & to ease mental pain?!


Question: Safe ways to let out anger & to ease mental pain.?
The only thing that seems to help me is sticking pins in my arm, burning myself with hair straighteners, punching walls & suffocating myself till I pass out.

I don;'t know how to let my anger, I feel angry for no reason half the time, I don't know what's wrong with me, I'm like a walking time bomb >_< I love feeling numb that I can't feel or think any thingHealth Question & Answer

You might think about counseling, I did that, and they can give you lists and lists of things to do.

Here's what works best for me:
Exercise
Cleaning
Artwork

Try things that are very physical, cleaning is actually a lot more physical than you'd think, and it's my favorite because at the end you feel great since you did something good instead of destructive You can go for a run, invest in a punching bag, or slam pillows into a wall. Sometimes just yelling helps too, or painting if you are artistic (I recommend the color red.). If you're arty, you can also draw a picture of whatever you're mad at and rip it up or scribble on it. It's pretty satisfying =D, especially breaking a canvas board.

I'm thinking maybe there's an underlying reason for this- maybe you don't share your feelings as much as you should.? That's what it was with me, when you keep things quiet so you don't cause a "scene" or whatever, it just eats at you and makes you madder next time something happens. Hiding things doesn't make them go away, it makes them worse. The reason I recommended counseling was because of the (potential) hiding, and because you're hurting yourself. I completely understand that, and I'm not going to waste time preaching to you about how dangerous it is-you already know that, otherwise you wouldn't be asking for "Safe" ways.


Here's a short list from a site that I'm fond of:
Try something physical and violent, something not directed at a living thing:
Slash an empty plastic soda bottle or a piece of heavy cardboard or an old shirt or sock.
Make a soft cloth doll to represent the things you are angry at. Cut and tear it instead of yourself.
Flatten aluminum cans for recycling, seeing how fast you can go.
Hit a punching bag.
Use a pillow to hit a wall, pillow-fight style.
Rip up an old newspaper or phone book.
On a sketch or photo of yourself, mark in red ink what you want to do. Cut and tear the picture.
Make Play-Doh or Sculpey or other clay models and cut or smash them.
Throw ice into the bathtub or against a brick wall hard enough to shatter it.
Break sticks.
I've found that these things work even better if I rant at the thing I am cutting/tearing/hitting. I start out slowly, explaining why I am hurt and angry, but sometimes end up swearing and crying and yelling. It helps a lot to vent like that.
Crank up the music and dance.
Clean your room (or your whole house).
Go for a walk/jog/run.
Stomp around in heavy shoes.
Play handball or tennis.

well, there are many ways to let out anger, here are some ideas

write how you feel
take a walk
meditate ( my favorite)
deep breathing (also works well )
take a shower, start cold, then after a few minutes, turn it warm ( try it, works for some ppl)
go for a run
draw
exercise

DONT:
cut
hurt your self in any way
punch anything, even a pillow
hurt someone else in any way
keep it bottled up

try some kind of hobby where you can let out anger, like boxing or tae kwon do, or maybe pick up paintballing or hunting, anything that lets you take out your anger in a safe postive manner,plus you get to get out and be active which is always goodHealth Question & Answer

Ya good luck with that one.... I have the same problem. I have been to docs and shrinks and they are no help. I have been so angry for so long that shooting junk with my shotgun dose not help. I think I am going to go to the police station and ask them to tase me.Health Question & Answer
