Go to A.A. and attend meetings. Stop isolating yourself and alienating from people, join a group and open up and seek a solution to the problem as it only gets worse. If not, consider an early death, confusion and or insanity. Get help now otherwise it becomes like a time warp, you wake up one day and years have passed and there's absolutely nothing to show for the time, that is, if you do wake up. Drinking is hard to quit when youve been doing it for so long so its not gonna be easy. The first thing you need to do is make it official your gonna quit.

I find that playing videogames helps keep my mind off of other stuff.

Luckily marijuana is not addictive and is a fairly safe alterantive to alcohol and can keep your mind off of it until you no longer crave the alcohol.

i smoke and ive tried to quit before with no avail but playing videogames have always delayed my psychological cravings and marijuna basically stops my physical craving for tobacco.

Well...change your goal...Stopping is honestly not that hard...if you don't have it you won't drink it...but that's just avoiding the problem...you need to learn control....you need to learn how to say this much and no more. I learned my getting a bottle of my favorite...and saying I'm not going to touch it...putting it in the fridge...where I saw it all the time...then saying I'm only allowed to drink from 8-9:30 and only on Fridays and Saturdays. And I only got had one small ~200ml bottle I was allowed to drink from for the week...think about it that's really not much...that's 8 shots tops...which is enough to get you feeling good but not falling down or stupid, twice, and no more...if you do it right...so if I was busy at 8...no drinking...if I forgot to get my bottle...no drinking...and if I wanted to drink tomorrow...I couldn't drink to much...
Set rules and stick to them...have someone else that you tell the rule who'll call you out if you're about to break them.
I now have a countertop half covered with bottles of "favorites" (fridge space can be limiting)that tend to last a long time these days. I no longer limit myself to 1 little bottle a week and I'm now allowed to drink favorites...but I still only twice a week at most for a short time...and I've leaned to stop at 4...because that's just enough to get me sleepy...I still only am allowed to drink with a friend...and they still know my rules...

Start by figuring out aprox. how much you drink.you if get the shakes when you stop drinking you'll need medical help from rehab or the lack of alcohol could seriously awausly hurt you.If it's only a few drinks a day you should try and quit all at once.It will be hard but avoid temtation and stay away from people or things who temp. you.good luck.Health Question & Answer

Take your addiction energy and get addicted to something positive. Find something you love with my drinking habit I started getting into eating healthy. Now I fish in my spare time. I understand your in the military it may be important to get away from the drinking crowd and find some guys that do other things like play sportsHealth Question & Answer

Take courses if you don't think they will bore you to death. You can try diluting it more and more each time, so that eventually it doesn't even taste good any more.

try and do something else instead of drinking. take up a hobby or workout instead when u feel like drinking. the longer you go without drinking the easier it gets.
