When I am taking naps I fall into a sort of half consciousness. I am unable to move and speak. Sometimes it is very hard to breath in this state and it scares me. What should I do when this happens and is it normal.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Sounds like sleep paralysis that's when you are unable to move your body upon falling asleep or waking up. Sleep paralysis is due to an ill-timed disconnection between the brain and the body. A common occurrence where the paralysis of the body that occurs during REM (Dreaming) sleep lingers into waking experience. An attack of sleep paralysis is usually harmless and self-limited. It tends to be over in a minute or two as soon as the brain and body re-establish connections and the person is able to move again.

Most likely the reason you feel difficulty breathing is because your chest muscles also are paralyzed
