Sore throat during school?!
Question: Sore throat during school.?
I have a very bad sore throat that keeps getting worse every day and I need to go to school tomorrow to get a few assignments done that are very important. Is there anything I can do that is simple to make it numb or something.? Cough drops aren't really working for me and it itches and stings and makes me gag everytime I swallow. What can I do.? I need to go to school but it's killing me! Please help.Health Question & Answer

Given your age and your symptoms, without actually seeing you, it could be either mono (a viral infection) or strep throat (a bacterial, or Streptococcal infection). The only way to tell is to have an actual swab done - don't believe your doctor if s/he says one or the other, you can't actually tell without a swab. It could of course be flu or a myriad other things, but these two are the most likely.
Regardless: you need antibiotics if it is Strep. It's not really going to go away on its own, and it's really bad if you gag when you swallow. The swelling might get worse.
If you have made out with anyone in the last while, and/or if you shared drinks, or utensils, or anything with saliva on it, with your friends, it may very well be mono. If this is the case, go to the doctor anyway - not much s/he can do, but at least they can give you painkillers and maybe some medication to get the swelling down so you can at least eat.
