I can't get my sleep cycle on track?!

Question: I can't get my sleep cycle on track.?
It's completely flipped around.
No matter how hard I try, I can't get to sleep at night, even when I'm exhausted.
But as soon as the sun comes up, I have no problems.

I'm also sleeping for strangely long periods of time. The other day I slept for 23 hours straight, although I'm usually out for about 13.

I can't figure out what's wrong with me, and I don't want to take any sleeping pills. But it's making school difficult.. Any ideas on how to fix it.?Health Question & Answer

A couple of things could be wrong. You should look at your diet. What you eat hugely effects your thyroid gland, which is a regulatory gland that plays a major part in metabolism as well as sleep cycle.

You should also take into consideration stress levels, and how much time you spend infront of a TV/Computer screen each day. Exposure to artificial light has a tendency to trick the brain and alter the sleep cycle.

Exercise is also a great way to help your body regulate thyroid, metabolism, and sleep cycle.Health Question & Answer

There is a technique where on one day, when you don't have anywhere important to be or have to drive anywhere the next day, you stay up all night and all day the next day and go to bed at a normal time that night. You are so tired by time you are going to bed that day that your internal clock resets itself and your sleep becomes normal. You do have to wake up are a normal time about 8 hours after you finally go to sleep. So you would: night one- stay up all night, next day- stay up all day, no napping, night two- go to bed at normal hour like 10-11pm, next morning- awake at normal time like 6-7am.
It is hard to do but can work if you sleep pattern is out of balance.Health Question & Answer

If your sleep schedule is that off and out of whack, seriously consider seeing a doctor about it. They won't necessarily prescribe you sleep aids, but give you advise on how to fix your issue, or at least figure out why you're not sleeping. Could be anxiety, stress, or maybe you've just got your days and night reversed.

If it's REALLY bad, think about having a sleep study done as well.Health Question & Answer
