Is taking 4 Tylenol PM pills a night bad for me?!

Question: Is taking 4 Tylenol PM pills a night bad for me.?
I couldn't sleep, so i bought some last week, it takes 4 of them for me to fall asleep easy, and I've been taking them every night.

Four Tylenol PM pills contain: 2000mg of Acetaminophen and 100mg Diphenhydramine

If it is, what should i take instead Tylenol PM.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It's really bad for you, actually, but I used to have this habit myself. Too much acetaminophen can be toxic, and its really dangerous to take it in such big amounts. The makers of Tylenol PM just came out with a new product called Simply Sleep, which contains only diphenhydramine, which is much safer to take as a sleep aid (Tylenol PM should only be used if you are actually in pain). Even taking two Tylenol PM and two Simply sleep pills together would be safer than taking four Tylenol PM. I do suggest looking into alternative, natural sleep aids, though, like kava kava and chamomile. Kava kava pills are much healthier than diphenhydramine, and you can more safely take four of them if you need extra help falling asleep (two is usually the recommended dose). also, they won't leave you feeling groggy in the morning, like Tylenol PM always did for me. Of course, you might also want to consider why you've had trouble sleeping in the first place, whether due to overstimulation before bedtime (TV, bright lights, etc.), or an emotional or psychological issue (stress, etc.).
I hope this helps. Health Question & Answer

Yes, 2000 mg of acetaminophen is too much.

Just go buy some Benedryl or generic diphenhydramine (generic benedryl) - you don't need the acetaminophen. You can get the generic diphenhydramine for about $3.00 at WalMart. 24 tablets in a box. 25 mg each.

You might try taking a 30-60 minute walk every day. You won't sleep if your body isn't tired. It is cheaper than drugs and there are no bad side effects, only good ones - sleeping better, more even mood, weight loss, lower blood pressure, etc.Health Question & Answer

Yes, that much Acetaminophen is bad for your liver and kidneys. They have to do extra work while you sleep to filter out chemicals that shouldn't be there.
Essentially you don't need the Acetminaphen, as it's for body aches and headaches, so I would recomend getting a script for sleeping meds that aren't OTC.

If you continue this you could seriosuly damage your internal organsHealth Question & Answer

The only reason 4 pills are needed is because you are semi-overdosing. You're putting yourself to sleep but in a dangerous way.

You should not depend on medication to fall asleep. Sleeping should be a natural process, that all people and animals do...NATURALLY.

Try staying up an entire night without sleeping, and I guarantee the following night after that you will just zonk out without meds.Health Question & Answer

First of all, 2000 mg of acetaminophen is a whopping dose. And if you have no pain, why take it at all.?

100 mg of Benadryl is quite a big dose too. For most people 25-50 is sufficient. also, it is not cleared rapidly, so next day drowsiness is common. There are far more effective sleep aids, but they require a prescription. Ambien is the most popular.

I would lose the Tylenol for sure.Health Question & Answer

You will burn a whole in your stomach and damage your liver (especially if you drink alcohol)! Your dosage is dangerous.
Try Celestial Seasonings Sleepy Time Extra Tea. Do not eat for the four hours before bedtime, too. Read a book or something that relaxes you to help you fall asleep. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Take plain Benadryl instead of Tylenol-PM. It's the Benadryl in Tylenol-PM that makes you drowsy. Taking too much acetaminophen (the pain-reliever in Tylenol) can lead to organ damage.Health Question & Answer

u should go see your doctor and have him prosribe u sleeping pills. tylenol is not good for you, it is made for beople who cant fall asleep because of pains not for people who just cant sleep. go see your doctorHealth Question & Answer

Try just taking the "Sleep Aid" only, without the acetaminophen because too much of that is bad for you & makes your stomach bleed.Health Question & Answer

Yes, that could cause long-lasting or permanent unwanted Side effects - get a prescription for something if you're having trouble sleeping.Health Question & Answer

Yes... it is bad. I wouldn't advise doing it anymore. Take the recommended dose and maybe take another medication with different ingredients.Health Question & Answer

thats to many, i recommend you go to your dr. and ask for something different like a prescription sleep aide like atavan. Health Question & Answer

Yes that's bad.. Those pills aren't meant for prolonged use. You might want to consider getting a script from your doctor for a sleeping pill if you really need one.Health Question & Answer

Tylenol Pm is for pain, and helps you sleep. If you do not have pain but just want to sleep I would suggest taking Unisom.
