Tonsilitis - Do I get it enough to have them whipped out?!
Question: Tonsilitis - Do I get it enough to have them whipped out.?
I never suffered from tonsilitis when I was a kid but around 3 years ago I suffered with it 3 times in that year, the next year i got it maybe twice and this year I have had it twice within the space of 2 weeks. The doc said they didnt give me strong enough antibiotics and so it stayed in my system. Do you think I am a good candidate to get them removed.? tonsilitis is so so painful and makes you feel so poorly I dread getting it again. However, my doctor seems to be in no rush to suggest I go for surgery.
Has anyone had theirs out as an adult who suffered from tonsilitis about the same as me.?Health Question & Answer

I have asthma and am prone to colds/flu etc. I suffer from tonsilitis at least 3 or 4 times a year. It has been that way for the past 4 years. I did ask my doctor about taking them out and he said no and I was very angry as becoming ill recurrently disrupts my life.
I spoke to an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist and to my surprise, he said my dr was right. Tonsils are part of a defence system in your throat. Getting rid of them makes it easier for infection to track down your throat into your lungs. Tonsilitis is a lot less painful and uncomfortable than pneumonia. Unless there is extreme reason, most Drs will not remove tonsils these days, they did so in the past and a lot of people have graduated from recurrent tonsilitis to recurrent pneumonia or bronchitis.Health Question & Answer

im not sure they will take them out.. In the past 3 months i have had it 6 times and had antibiotics every time.. the same thing happened to me last year aswell. i got it constantly for a few months, they wont take mine out because they are part of your bodies defence system and if they wernt there you may get worse infections elsewhereHealth Question & Answer
You tonsils are there for a reason. When I was growing up I used to get tonislitis at least 4 times a year and the doctors wanted to take them out but my father refused to let them. I rarely suffer from tonsilitis now it seems to have been a phaseHealth Question & Answer

i get tonsillitis every month. ive been getting it for years and my doctor kept saying i would grow out it by time i turned 18. i was given the same medication every time, my body is now immune to the tablets so i returned to to the doctor late last year(20 years old) and told him i was not leaving until i was referred to a throat specialist. i was referred and when the specialist heard my history and treatment i had received he was disgusted. i was due to get them out in march but i fell pregnant in feb so ive still got them and the tonsillitis. i am now having more problems because of the size of my tonsills, my blood vessels in my throat are bursting when i am being sick(due to pregnancy) so i am now having to get lazer surgery as it is causing bleeding in my throat.
so go back to the doctors demand to be referred to a Specialist. you might not need to get them taken out. there are tablets that are taken 2 times a day for a full month that have been known to stop tonsillitis for some people you never know it might be a less painful solution for you.
