Answers:
You probably need to have an endoscopy done. It takes 5-10 minutes.
Then the MD will suggest some medicine to prevent the acid from eroding your esophagus.
It can be serious if you don't treat it.
Get to a gastroenterologist ASAP.
In the meantime, avoid fatty, greasy foods; caffeine; carbonated drinks; chocolate; alcohol; smoking; large meals; tomato sauce; lying down after eating.
Try OTC: antacids: Tums, Mylanta, Maalox, Rolaids, Gelusil
H2 Inhibitors: Zantac 75, Pepcid AC, Axid
Proton Pump Inhibitors: Prilosec OTC
There are also prescription meds that are stronger like Aciphex, Protonix, Prilosec & Prevecid Prescription strength & time delayed;
Nexium.
Google: mayo clinic>>diseases>> GERD
I also take Reglan, It helps speed up transit time food is in your stomach making it less likely to be regurgitated.
Feel better.Health Question & Answer

Yes, It can be serious. Acid reflux if not controlled can cause scar tissue to build up int the esophagus. Over the counter medications like prilosec OTC taken on a day can control this problem. And if you keep a bottle of LIQUID maalox in the frig. and if you get a flair up take a gulp or two to cool things off. If it continues consult a physician, there is a possibility that it could be caused by a hiatal hernia. In that case you will be told that you need to elevate you're bed 6 inches, and to avoid acidic foods like tomatoes, orange and lemonaid, grapefruit juice.Health Question & Answer
Yes you need to go and see a doctor.
I used to suffer from the same condition. I had severe erosion in my esophagus.
I found a drug study that tested all of the different proton pump inhibitors. Things like Prilosec and Nexum. They worked for a few years, but then stopped working.
I asked my Doctor what were my options, and he said I may be qualified for a surgical procedure. It is called Laproscopic Fudoplication.
It changed my life. The minute I woke up from the surgery I felt no heart burn, and have not since. That was 7 years ago.
Again go speak with your Doctor there are options for you.Health Question & Answer
