(Very important please read all) Prescriptions? Do doctors get paid for each medication they prescribe?!

Question: (Very important please read all) Prescriptions.? Do doctors get paid for each medication they prescribe.?
I went to see the doctor because of abdominal pain and swelling in my feet. I was told the swelling was likely due to fluid retention and prescribed a diuretic. And the abdominal pain was from inflammation due to ovarian cysts. So I was also prescribed naproxen. After I was sick for 3 days with flu like symptoms I did some research and discovered that combining naproxen and diuretics can cause kidney failure. And I had extremely painful leg craps for about a week after the flu symptoms went away, even though I have been drinking tons of water, about 11 glasses a day.

My bf went to the doctor after hitting his knee at work and was prescribed Naproxen. As well as a cream to rub on the swelled area of his knee. That was 3 weeks ago, and his knee still hurts to touch even after the prescription was finished. For the last 3 weeks (since being on naproxen) he has had chest pain, and difficulty breathing when he lays down, and the chest pain remains all day but is worse when he lays down.
So he went to the doctor again and she prescribed more naproxen (saying his chest and back muscles are inflamed) and a muscle relaxant and referred him to the physiotherapist.
So he saw the physiotherapist today and she said that she doesn't believe this chest pain is inflammation and sounds more like a cracked rib. She worked out a few knots in his back muscles and his back still hurts a lot.
Possible side effects of naproxen which after doing research I have learned, says, stop taking naproxen and Seek emergency medical help if you have symptoms of heart or circulation problems, such as chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, or problems with vision or balance. Speech and balance seem fine, however he might not tell me everything as to not worry me. (I will be informing him of this first thing in the morning)
I didn't really think to much of it went I brought home a 32" lcd tv and he said it looked blurry when it looked just fine to me, now this makes me think...
Should we seek out another doctor for a second opinion.?.?
This is very concerning to me to know the doctor prescribed more of the medication that could be causing these problems.Health Question & Answer

Go to another doctor for a second opinion.

Naproxen ( generic Aleve), is probably giving your bf acid reflux , at the very least.

Doctors had me on either Ibuprofen or Naproxen all the way up until I developed gastritis and acid reflux from the stuff. Now I'm on pills for THAT.

A lot of doctors just throw pills at problems. For many of them, that's what their training tells them to do. Symptoms + patient complaints = pills to control symptoms = no more patient complaints / happy patient.

See if you can find an old fashioned doctor that's been in practice for a good while. The best doctor I had was a 68 year old doctor that had seen basically everything there was to see and can fix some things with advice instead of just throwing pills at you.

If the medication you're taking now is causing problems for either of you, as it seems to be doing, quit taking it and get a second opinion asap. There are side effects to almost all medication and there are some people who have more extreme side effects than others. Health Question & Answer

Alot of times, when a doctor thinks a problem isnt serious, they will prescribe something just so the patient doesnt feel they walked out of the office empty handed. It does sound like your doctor didn't do a full work up, and that maybe you need to consult osmebody else.Health Question & Answer

In the US alot of doctors do get compensated by the drug companies for prescribing their medications....there currently is legislation in congress to require those payments and the doctors they are paid to to be made public information. right now you can't get that information. it isn't all doctors, but almost all drug companies have reps who travel the country trying to entice each doctor to use their products and financial incentives are just a small part of that equation.Health Question & Answer
