Problems breathing, when I'm waking up I am paralyzed ?!
Question: Problems breathing, when I'm waking up I am paralyzed .?
It's like I have to focus and concentrate to finally turn myself over to like 'free' myself and breathe again. I feel half asleep/half awake, its scary.
I do take sedative type medications.
Has anyone experienced anything like this.? Are these warning signs.?
Thanks.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Some sedatives will cause a temporarily paralysis upon waking up.
What are you taking, if you care to say.? I felt a very similar side effect when taking benzos (Xanax, Valium, Clonazepam etc.). Again, the temporary paralysis thing.

There is a phenomenon known as sleep paralysis, where the body(muscular/skeletal) basically is not in sync when the brain awakes from R.E.M stage of sleep and remains paralyzed, for a brief period......That's a possibility...However,I would check with your health care provider and ask about possible side effects of your current medication,to see if this could be initiating the episodes......Health Question & Answer
I answered a question about something like that awhile back and they called it "sleep paralysis". that might be a good keyword for you to find out more. Sorry I don't know anything about this, but I thought maybe that term might help as a good starting place.
I'm also wondering if you could be having a reaction to the med.? I think it at least warrants a call to your Dr. Good luck!Health Question & Answer
