Answers:
Lorazepam is unquestionably the most addictive of all the benzodiazepines, producing both significant withdrawal and rapid tolerance. I am afraid it only needs to be taken on 3 consecutive nights to produce withdrawal, if not taken on the forth night!

I have no sympathy at all for thoughtless careless doctors who prescribe in this way. Nearly 30 years ago when I was doing my psychiatry attachment, the enlightened psychiatrist I worked for was running a clinic JUST for lorazepam addicts.

I feel the need to apologise for my profession that there are such poor practitioners still in practice!

You have my fullest sympathy and I do hope it does not take you too long to recover from the problem. If you are still having issues, please see another GP, the usual method of helping patients to get over the problem is to wean them off lorazepam using low dose diazepam. ( Yes Valium is LESS addictive than lorazepam!)Health Question & Answer
