If it was bright red blood when he wiped, I would agree that it's possibly haemerroids. If it was brownish or had the apperance of coffee granules, this can sometimes indicate some sort of internal bleed. It could be something major or something very minor. There's really no way of knowing without having done the tests. My friend had this happen and it turned out to be a problem with his pancreas which took little treatment to correct. Mainly lifestyle changes. Good luck to him and fingers crossed it's nothing too nasty. Health Question & Answer

Fresh blood could mean, and probably is - hemorrhoids, which definitely calls for a colonoscopy, rather than a sigmoidoscopy, because a colonoscopy goes deeper & further. I have had the same problem. When I had the colonoscopy, they found 12 colon polyps and 2 large colon cysts. They removed the polyps with the tool they used for the exam, but I had to have major surgery to get the embedded cysts and lost all my ascending colon, resulting in a bowel resection. Thankfully, though nothing was cancerous. I have to go every two years for rechecks, and have had 3 more polyps removed since then, and I still have recurrent hemorrhoid problems, but thank goodness I had the colonoscopy (even though the prep for it is very unpleasant) and they found and fixed the problems before they were cancerous.Health Question & Answer

Like the others said, it is most likely just hemorrhoids which are easy to treat. He will probably have a colonoscopy done to be sure there are no growths in the colon. If the bleeding is coming from the bottom, and is not in the feces or brown blood, it's nothing to really worry about. There is small chance that it could be coming from his bowels which is a little more serious, but I would bet on it being hemorrhoids.Health Question & Answer

Well, it may be an embarrassing situation for him so that he will not talk about it.
Most of the time, such bleeding can be caused by internal ( within ) or external ( closer to the skin surface or an outer region ), hemorrhoids are quite common and can cause bleeding. Hemorrhoids are enlarged blood vessels that can cause bleeding from " pushing too hard or when constipated ". This is a benign ( not serious ) condition but, it is best that he be evaluated by his Doc. There is a chance that he may have a bleeding ulcer that will cause this symptom but, usually, this can be treated with medication and the " poop " is mainly a black, tarry appearance.
I hope that this helps.

Could be hemmorids, could be polyps. Chances are he's going to get a colonoscopy where they look inside to see if there are growths. Nothing serious, especially if problems are found early.Health Question & Answer
