Do people actually read the questions, or are they just wingin' it.?

Yes. It is possible to use heroin for recreation only. Anything is possible, but it is extremely hard. Heroin is a powerful drug.
When I first used heroin, I was 19 and only trying it as a substitute for other opiates(vicodin, percocet, oxycontin, etc.) that I used occasionally, without withdrawl, for several years. At the time, using such opiates & even heroin, was the same thing to me and my friends as smoking pot or drinking. We would get together, hang out, and do heroin & cocaine as if it was no big deal. For years, we used off & on, and never had any negative consequences. I went to school and became a paramedic. A friend went to school and worked in a hospital ER. Since we only used once or twice a week, it was easy to hide. Problems don't arise until you begin to form a routine or habitual use, and this is the hardest part of keeping heroin use recreational.
I personally don't know anyone who woke up in the morning and said, "I'm going to be a heroin addict!". I do know some people who became addicted really fast, and others who took a very long time. In order to not become addicted at all, you would have to use extremely sparingly and have a very strong will when it comes to any withdrawl symptoms. While it may be possible to do this, it is much easier to become addicted in the blink of an eye. I remember telling myself that I'm a strong minded person & I'll never let it get out of hand. I can tell you first hand, I tried. I told myself I would never become addicted, and that I would never use enough or frequently enough to experience withdrawl symptoms. But, the first time you feel a little bit of back pain or a sickness, you know that it can be cured instantly with one bag of dope. So, you make yourself feel better for the moment. The problem is that the withdrawl symptoms that you never thought you would ever experience come back twice as bad the instant that bag wears off. So, you use again. This cycle repeats itself until you are no longer "getting high". You are simply using in order to get out of bed, to go to work, and to function.
Now, you can detox from the heroin & start all over again using occasionally and trying to control it. Heck... who knows.? Maybe you'll do better this time. But, maybe you'll do worse. After losing my job, my house, my car, my friends, and everything else that made up "my life", I decided it's better to just not even take that chance.

So.. Yes. You can live your life somewhat normal & use heroin recreationally. But, just remember that's the way most heroin addicts who lose everything began.

Sorry about the long answer, but your question deserved it.. and not "Drugs are bad... Drugs kill you"Health Question & Answer

People who are Heroin addicts usually have a lot of personal issues or sad lives....If you are happy in yourself and feel good about life you wouldn't even consider such a thing. It's sad that people feel they even have to use Heroin. If you change your way of life with healthy lifestyle and activities and positive thinking about yourself and others, you can enjoy life without drugs!

Health Question & Answer

Heroin is not a drug that can keep ones life the same. It is very addicting, some even get addicted after the first use. It is very hard for people to come off of it and it can destroy your life. Stay away from the stuff.Health Question & Answer

My parents were "recreational" users in the 80s it lead to their serious addiction problems and my father's subsequent incarceration. Not to mention my many years of physical and mental abuse.Health Question & Answer

Not really. If you use it with any regularity at all, you're going to get addicted. No doubt. In the meantime, even using it ONCE can have a seriously adverse effect on your health. Bad idea. Health Question & Answer

I actually knew someone that did for years. He didn't sound like he'd recommend it. Neither would I. Just look at some popular former junkies - say Keith Richards - and decide if you want to be like that when you are old.Health Question & Answer
