A marijuana cigarette looks like a home rolled cigarette. The leaves will smell strongly like incense in a way and nothing like cigarettes with tobacco. Usually the leaves are bright green or sticky brown, not like loose light brown with a tobacco cigarette. Health Question & Answer
Well if it looks like a hand rolled cigarette with no filter then it probably is a joint.
If it has a filter or looks like its been machine rolled and is near perfectly cylindrical and you can see brown tobacco at the tip then it is a cigarette.

If still unsure or you just happend to glance, open it up. If it its more like very small uniformly shredded brown then its tobacco. The difference is pretty easy to see from color to how its rolled.

The marijuana will be in a roll form and not exactly perfect, where the cigarette will be very consistent in size. Marijuana looks like dried green spices. cigarettes are usually brown looking in appearance.
