Contact lenses for 14 year olds.?!

Question: Contact lenses for 14 year olds..?
My mom refuses to think about contact lenses for basketball. At all. Nada. None. Every time I allude to it, she shuts it down, evades it, ect. My dad is for them.

Now i'm starting to get angry, as the newest tactic is lying. She even tried to say that they are too expensive (Trust me, this is BULLSHIT, she buys a BRAND NAME COACH BAG every month to "stay in style.")

Any tips.? I'm the only 14 year old left who CANNOT sign up for contact lenses. To make matters worse, im 6'2"ft. Please guys, you haven't failed me before, help me here too. Any thoughtful answer with a link to another question I will follow as well. Thanks.Health Question & Answer

I'd say you are in the right here. Sure, you could get a little elastic strap for your glasses, but I think generally, it'd be more expensive to have to replaces glasses should they break. (so if you wanted to try a low tactic to counter hers, break a pair on the court....)
But you have explained it reasonably and logically here....perhaps help to work out a payment plan for them, only buy them during basketball season or something. Get your pops to reason with the woman too. Have him take you to the eye doctor and get signed up... Some people don't respond to logic and maturity, but most will. Best of luck, contacts are so nice for sports and 14 is a good age for contacts.Health Question & Answer

I think you should try to get your dad to talk with your mom about getting contact lenses, he may be able to talk her into getting them for you. As for them being too expensive I don't think that should be a problem they are making contacts that you can wear for up to 3 weeks at a time if you take care of them. Another point is that contacts can help correct vision problems that glasses can't. I have really bad eyes and with my glasses I can not see as well as with my contacts. I hope your mom will see that it is worth it. Good LuckHealth Question & Answer

When you are born your eyes are already fully grown.(well at least most of the way, by the time you are three they are actually done growing) so any1 can really have contacts. I wear them and they are very comfortable. im 15 and i wear my contacts to school but around the house i just wear my glasses.Health Question & Answer

Well with the money factor you can respond with saying that you will pay for them, after all they are not a necessity and it is something that you want. If she has other reasons then talk with her about them. It sounds like your dad is on your side so the 3 of you can chat about it in more detail.
There are also rec specs which are glasses made for sports, they can handle getting hit and they don't fall off easily. My brother and my boyfriend both own a pair and they are both quite happy with them. With contacts if one falls out on the court, I'm sure it won't be fun.Health Question & Answer
