Hi Justin V,

This pounding in your ear is named "Tinnitus." Tinnitus can be described as a ringing, buzzing, pounding, or hissing sound in the ear. Tinnitus is usually caused by a problem with the system responsible for transmitting signals from the inner ear to the brain. Other reasons for the condition include repeated exposure to loud noise, ear infections and inflammation and low thyroid hormone levels. If you like, you could go and see a doctor.

Your doctor may find an identifiable cause and be able to treat or make recommendations to treat the Tinnitus. But to be honest, there is no specific treatment for tinnitus that could competely stop this. It should just go away on it's own or it may be a permanent disability that you will have to "live with." Some otolaryngologists have recommended "niacin" to treat Tinnitus. It helps reduce Tinnitus, but and it may cause problems with skin flushing. You could also take theorpy, incase the Tinntius ever gets worse.

However, there is a way to prevent Tinnitus. You must protect your hearing wherever you go. When your around any noise that bothers your ears (a concert, sporting event, hunting) make sure you wear hearing protection or reduce noise levels. Even everyday noises, such as blow drying your hair or using a lawnmower, can require protection. Keep ear plugs or earmuffs handy for these activities.

Anyway, Hope I helped! Good Luck! With your ear. =]Health Question & Answer
