What do you DO when you're having a PANIC attack?!

Question: What do you DO when you're having a PANIC attack.?

Hello there

In the last 2 days...I've been trying to fall asleep and I wake up in and out because my heart beats fast or I feel my pulse beating faster...which scares me..thus increasing the beat. I've been dealing with job stress and thinking I will be getting a heart attack..I'm 24 years old and I just want to be happy. But I have been having a bad diet for a while

what is happening...I mean....is it REALLY being effected by a bad diet and lack of exercise.?...I feel like that's why

But what are some things I can do to calm down late at night when there is no one to call ...and my bf is asleep and can't really be awake enough to make me feel better...

do you have any tips to help me relax...calm down..and decrease the feeling..

I really dislike this feeling when I am trying to fall asleep

if you have any tips I would appreciate them

what I normally do is start watching funny things like friends..or a cartoon ...drink hot water....tonight I also took 4 drops of rescue remedy under the tounge (so we'll see if this works)

thanks for any input...please helpHealth Question & Answer

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.

But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....

for dealing with the sleeping go buy some melatonin. It is the natural chemical released in the brain telling you to go to sleep. So it will help you sleep. For the anxiety go to a therapist talk and open up. also consider medication. also I am personally a pro-medicinal marijuana advocate as it has helped my depression, insomnia, and stress level. First of all take slow deep breaths. Find a focus "happy place" in your head and continue the deep breaths until your return to normal.Health Question & Answer

I'm sure you've seen people breathing into paper bags.
That's to slow down your breathing. Take slow deep breaths, and concentrate on your breathing only. Don't think about anything elseHealth Question & Answer

I have really bad anxiety and I've read numerous ways to relieve it. Pumpkin seeds are actually supposed to help. Even if you have a bad diet, you can still take vitamins - that doesn't take up too much time to do that. I take Centrum - works great =) Is there a comforting pillow you can hold onto at night.? A stuffed animal of your favorite animal or something.? I had a stuffed penguin because I love penguins. Warm milk is supposed to help you sleep at night, you could give that a try. also, what I love is right after you wash your bed sheets and take them out of the dryer and put them on - It's very comforting, but I know you can't do that every night :|Health Question & Answer

When I was really young (about 5) I started having panic attacks when I went to sleep. My heart would race, etc, and I would have to get up and walk around to get my mind off of it.

When I was older (in my 20's) I started having panic attacks whenever I tried to cross the street. The only thing that worked was to focus on something across the street (bus bench, sign, etc) and keep my eyes focused on that til I got to the other side.Health Question & Answer
