depends. usually a person lives awhile. but in some cases a person can survive. depends on the person's reason for being on life support. when the medical personnel decides that it's time to be taken off life support,they consult with the family to see if it is their wish to discontinue life support. the patient knows nothing. most generally yes they pass on, hope this helpsHealth Question & Answer
