Question: My 1 year old has a raw/pusy belly button.?
About a week ago my 1 year old started palying with her bell button. At first we thought it was cute, you know, "aw she discoverd somehting new" But today I noticed that the inside of her button was raw and red and pusy looking. This cant be normal can it.? Should I be as concerned as I am.? Please help! I am already an overly paranoid mother, so I have trouble knowing when I am worried at the wrong time. Thanks for your time.Health Question & Answer

Pus indicates infection. Wash it thoroughly with warm soapy water, make sure the area is dry and use antibiotic ointment. Discourage her touching it, but it probably hurts so you will have to be vigilant. If it is not a WHOLE lot better by Monday or Tuesday, a doctor's visit is in order. Health Question & Answer
She could of made it "raw" herself by scratching it with her nails. I would wash it out with warm soapy water, and encourage her not to do it anymore. you could even put neosporin inside of it to prevent infection. Kids will be kids, my 8 yr old put a bead in her nose just to see if it would fit. She told us a few day later when she sneezed and it came out. Good luck!Health Question & Answer
My son did this too. They dig in there because they have discovered something "new." Just keep it clean and dry, and put a little antibiotic ointment or cream on it and it should be fine.Health Question & Answer
