How to run a mile? help please?!


Question: How to run a mile.? help please.?
we run a mile for high school PE, and i need some advice

last week, i ran it in 9:30. but i really want to run it in like 7minures. so i jogged most of it, but walked for like half the track. but when i finished the mile and saw myself, my face was allll red and kind of blotchy. i looked bad, lolz, it was embarassing. i didnt even feel as bad as i looked :\ hah

maybe i wasnt breathing right.? ive tried breathing in my nose, out my mouth, but its really hard and i dont get enough air.

on track, here's what we do.
RELAX! make sure that you when you run, you are so relaxed your cheeks jiggle up and down =). we do the "potato chip run" where you put two thin potato chips in your hand, and sprint! if the chips break, you are a stressed out runner, if they don't, you are perfect! now of course, don't sprint the mile. also, try breathing in for two steps, and breathing out for three. (or whatever nubmers float your boat) and take big steps! there's no point in running if your taking one foot size step! also, practice! go running after school, not a mile everyday, but work your way up to that. if you start with like 1/4 mile for two weeks, then 1/2 a mile the next two weeks, 3/4 mile the next two weeks, and then a mile the next two! practice practice practice. also, make sure you warm up. everybody always thinks warmups are totally useless, but they getyour heart going, adn actually help you burn more fat. 9 minutes isn't bad, and believe me, i was NOT a runner, until like last year, there are so many things you think wouldn't matter, how big your steps are, how long you breathe, and you really don't thinka bout it when you run. also, you should be able to talk when you run. If you can't hold a conversation, you're working too hard. NEVER EVER EVER sing when you run. It works your lungs too much. Don't be afraid to e-mail me if you need anything else. Honestly, the best way to become a better runner is to run everyday. I used to be really slow but then I took up track and cross country. I walked a mile everyday, then two, then three, then four. Then I ran one mile, ran two, ran three. I run five miles everyday now and have a mile time of less than seven. Practice, practice, practice to build endurance. also, when breathing try and breath in your nose and out you mouth. Steady breathing and a steady pace will help you. My boyfriend runs alot and he likes when i go with him but i barely could run at first so what i do is run for 2 minutes and then walk for a minute and then run for 2 minutes and walk for a minute. Do that routine for a week and then move it up, run for 3 minutes and walk for a minute and the week after that, run for 4 minutes and walk for a minute. And keep going until you dont feel too tired to just run for the whole 7 minutes. It works really good. I can run a whole mile now and still keep going after. :)Health Question & Answer

i usually get around eight minutes on my mile, and i just try not to think about running at all. think about all the other stuff you have to do today, or the hot guy jogging infront of you, or something to get your mind off of running. and maybe you should start running by yourself at home, so your more in shape to run at school. hope that helped =]Health Question & Answer

Build up to it. Run the straight part of the track and walk the curves. Do this every day until you can run two straighta and a curve, walking the last curve.

try running the mile more often. Trust me it really helps when you just run more. My friend got 8 minutes on the mile, he did track that year and lowered it all the way to 5:40 minutes.Health Question & Answer
