Is it necessary to have your tonsils removed?!


Question: Is it necessary to have your tonsils removed.?
I am just curious but I was told most people have there tonsils removed because the tonsils are decaying. Is this true.? Is it necessary to remove your tonsils. Can you go on without removing them.? Any other info you might have for me.?Health Question & Answer

It isn't because they were decaying; they're a lymphoid and in the case of very bad sickness or infection they swell to the point where they need to be removed. They don't need to be removed; a lot of people still have theirs, and nowadays doctors are less likely to do it and instead prescribe medication to reduce the swelling and treat the infection.Health Question & Answer

The tonsils do not have to be removed. I know alot of people who still have theirs, including my dad who is 54. People typically have them removed becuase when they are younger, they can easily get infected, and turn into tonsillitis, and then they must be removed. But if they do not become infected, there is no reason to be rid of them, and they are just fine hanging around in your throat :P

the function of your tonsils is to filter stuff that enters your body via the esophagus. you dont really need them, im 16 and have had them out since elementary school. but dont get them removed just because, there is no needHealth Question & Answer

No, it is not necessary to have a tonsillectomy. The only time the removal is REALLY necessary is because of recurring infections/sicknesses. Hope this helps!Health Question & Answer

The only time they remove tonsils these days is if you have a chronic case of tonsillitis. This is usually cured with antibiotics. If you consistantly get tonsillitis they may recommend removal.Health Question & Answer
