Anemia has been explained pretty well by the above posters. It isn't as common in males as females. It can be caused by another illness or blood loss. This does NOT mean that there is something seriously wrong with you though. It is usually corrected very easily. Health Question & Answer

It is a lack of iron in your blood/body, usually confirmed by a blood test. Symptoms could include being pale, being tired all the time, loss of appetite, lack of energy etc.
Your doctor will probably prescribe iron tablets; you can help by eating green leafy vegetables, red meat, and other iron-rich foods. Vitamin C helps the absorption of iron, tannin inhibits it, so take tablets with water or juice, not with tea.
It's debilitating rather than serious.Health Question & Answer

There are various types of anaemia but all result in the blood not being able to carry oxygen around the body effectively. The most common type is iron deficiency which can be due to chronic bleeding or a lack of iron in the diet. Another common type is macrocytic or pernicious anaemia which can be cause by a lack of either folic acid or vitamin B12 either due to malabsorption or again poor diet. the treatment depends on the cause of the anaemia so may range from iron tablets through b12 injections or may even include surgery to repair a bleeding ulcer if that is the cause or possibly even a splenectomy if the spleen is destroying too many red blood cells.Health Question & Answer

They should have explained all this to you. Anemia is when you iron count in your blood is low. You usually are given a prescription or told what to take to build your blood level up. If it's low you are usually very tired. Un treated can be dangerous. So take care of it.Health Question & Answer
