Question: For those of you who suffer from anxiety/social phobia etc. Can you pinpoint any 'incidents' in your.......?
...childhood or life that may have triggered the way you are now.?

You don't have to read the following if you don't want to, just putting it down as a comparison to someone else's experience.
I suffer from anxiety and social phobia. I've been thinking a lot about what may have caused me to be this way, I've always just shrugged it off as something I was born with, but have had a bit of an 'eureka' moment recently!
First off I was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck (not a great start for a life of tranquillity!), but more pointedly I remember an incident when I was between the ages of 6-10. I was on holiday with my family, visiting yet another church in France, (a pastime which would become the staple of many future holidays to come!). I was walking along, looking up at the ceiling of the church which was incredibly crowded. I looked down to find my family had gone! Panic ensued, so I ran around looking for them, saw a man that 'was my Dad' and held his hand, only to look up and find it wasn't him.........panic became more intense and I ran off to look for my 'real' family, almost close to tears wondering if I'd ever find them. Can't remember anymore, but I must have found them, because I didn't spend the rest of my childhood alone in France!
Anyway, I wonder if this is at least one trigger, because I'm petrified of crowded places and have to muster a great deal of courage in order to get out and face the music, (which I know is a lot more than some people can do - so I'm lucky in that sense). The only time I'm mildly approachable in a crowded place is if I have someone I know with me, and even then my body and mind are in overrdrive.
So, just out of interest, are there any occasions when you think it may have had a detrimental effect on how you are.? : )

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....
