It definitely sounds like you have an infection, especially if there is pus coming from the opening (is there.?). The symptoms of an infection are: dark color around the piercing, pain, a bad smell coming from the piercing or a green or dark yellow discharge.

Do NOT use alcohol or bactine like products - these dry your skin and can worsen the condition. DO use antibacterial soaps that are free of perfumes and dyes.

Try rinsing your mouth a few times a day with a saline solution (salt dissolved in warm water) and continue cleansing with the stuff they gave you for the piercing. If it does not clear up within a few days, remove the jewelry and continue the above regimen. It should clear up in a week or so. Note that if the infection is serious enough that you have to remove the jewelry, the piercing will likely close and have to be redone - but your health is more important, and an untreated infection can be serious. If you dont want to risk the hole closing - return to the person who did your piercing and ask them their opinion. They may tell you to remove the jewelry, give you more antiseptic, or tell you to go to the doctor.

Most piercing infections can clear up on their own with proper hygiene, but if they dont youll likely need antibiotics. Did you properly cleanse the piercing under the regimen that the piercer told you to.? Cleaning after the fact is far less effective than having properly disinfected the wound from the start.Health Question & Answer

keep it clean, use antiseptic, rubbing alcohol, neosporin, anything, but keep it clean. If you can't get it under control, you might have to take the jewelry out and let it heal completely.Health Question & Answer

it's definitely infected...ew. sucks for you.
go to a doctor.Health Question & Answer
