One explanation holds that the custom originally began as an actual blessing. Gregory I became Pope in 590 as an outbreak of the bubonic plague was reaching Rome. In hopes of fighting off the disease, he ordered unending prayer and parades of chanters through the streets. At the time, sneezing was thought to be an early symptom of the plague. The blessing ("God bless you!") became a common effort to halt the diseaseHealth Question & Answer
i heard your heart stops for like half a second. im not sure you can really trace back to where it came from. 'bless you' is an american thing.
in latin america they say different types of good fortune everytime you sneeze.
1st sneeze- health
2nd sneeze- wisdom
3rd sneeze- money
the connection is that they both have to do with something good for the person who is sneezing.
sneezing shocks the body though. your heart stops for like a quarter of a second and your eyes reflex shut.
im not sure where that tradition came from though. you could try googling it. Health Question & Answer
