Do i need to see a doctor about my chest?!

Question: Do i need to see a doctor about my chest.?
Since Friday, I've had a bit of a sore throat but today my chest started to hurt and I've been coughing all day. I've been coughing up nasty stuff and have felt sick all day, I had to leave work early. I'm getting married next week and I don't want to be ill! Do you think there's anythng the doctor could do for my cough.? I've been taking an over the counter medecine but it hasn't worked too well. Do you think I need antibiotics.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
No, the fast majority of chesty episodes are a result of a viral infection and don't respond to antibiotics.. If your cough/symptoms are persistent for longer than 4 weeks, this is an indication of a chest X -ray and only then do you really need to see her Dr.

Even with chesty episodes that are a result of a bacterial infection; antibiotics really only have a marginal effect on symptom duration. In most cases things will get better on their own and don't require antibiotic therapy. Only toxic pneumonia's that are potentially life threatening require absolute antibiotic therapy. This is quite rare.

Just look after herself, push fluid intake and things should improve, if your symptoms get worse or you develop breathing difficulties then consult the Dr.

Do not use cough syrups. Cough medicines, in particular suppressants are of no use to anyone. Coughing is basically the bodies natural way to remove/dislodge mucous and debris from the lungs, by suppressing this, it can theoretically increase the risk of secondary bacterial infection due to stasis

(And vitamin C, Echinacea, garlic and zinc will make NO difference whatsoever!)Health Question & Answer

Get to the doctor as soon as possible... with a wedding on the horizon there is no time to waste...

Sleep with an extra pillow at night until your chest is clear..

Take echinachea, vitamin C and zinc in addition to anything your GP prescribes (get your fiance on them too as it will help him to not catch your germs) .... Lots of drinks but try to avoid dairy until your chest clears.

Antibiotics are given much less these days but are the traditional treatment for a chest infection so this may well be the prescription - if so check to see if this will affect your birth control (unless you and your bridegroom are planning a family very soon!!).

Good Luck... I am sure that you will soon be feeling much better - but don't count on going back to work too soon... I hope that all goes well with the wedding and that there is nothing else to worry about... Health Question & Answer

It sounds like something that is going around, I've had it recently and know lots of people who've had it too. It usually goes away on it's own after a few days, but because you need to be super fit for your wedding, just go to the doctor to see if he can give you anything.
Get well NOW!
Have a lovely wedding :)
