How can I stop getting scared at night and fall asleep?!

Question: How can I stop getting scared at night and fall asleep.?
For a few months I have been getting incredibly scared at night, mainly around the time when everyone goes to sleep and I am left alone. I get paranoid that someone or something is going to break into my house or that this someone or something can read my thoughts. Eventually I go all OCD and start checking the doors over and over again making sure they are locked. I also make sure all of the windows are closed and no one can look inside. I find it very difficult to fall asleep at this time because of these fears. I've never had these fears before and they are driving me crazy. I used to be OK when I would sleep with my door open or with my boyfriend, but now I still get scared. It's to the point where I want to take some kind of really strong drug to knock myself out just so I can sleep! I haven't been able to get up to go to school because of the lack of sleep. Since the fear disappears once the sun comes up, that is when I pass out. Any suggestions on helping me sleep or getting rid of these fears.? Health Question & Answer

Answers:
You have anxiety problems that manifest at night. See a doctor or psychiatrist about anti-anxiety medication. 6 months on those might be what you need, then you can get off the medication and hopefully have normal nights on your own.Health Question & Answer

Try not to watch to many horro movies or play survival horro video games. also just don't thnk of anything and you'll be fine. Leave the lights on and shut the door if you have to. Get somebody in the room if you are really that scared.Health Question & Answer

Hi, Im now 27 yrs old & I went thru this too a few yrs back. My hubby wasnt home and wouldnt come home till late & Ide be fine w/ it one day & the next I was a mess. I checked the doors continuously & even hid a knife under my matress for 3 yrs. It passed after a month or so. I just would leave the outside lites on b/c you know people dont break in to houses when the lights on b/c others can see them (back & front) and Ide leave a lamp on in the living room too. It helps. Thnk about things you want to do/be when you grow up. Youll fall asleep on that. I did,Health Question & Answer
