Does ecstasy lead to Schizophrenia?!
Question: Does ecstasy lead to Schizophrenia.?
My buddy wants to try e but my other buddy said that his cousin did it once and went schizophrenic... Is it possible.? I've heard of e in the treatment of schizophrenia but never a cause of it. I know the dangers are dehydration and over heating but that can be solved by simply hydrating yourself with water.
Please don't give me all this bull about it being bad for you and ill die blah blah blah ive heard it all. My body... my friends body... we can do what we want to it so please just straight up answer. ThanksHealth Question & Answer

if you use it excessively it can cause mental health problems, but it is a drug and therefore can have different effects on different people. it sounds like his cousin went under on one and freaked out, if hes going to do it, make sure hes with people he trusts. Although you should hydrate yourself, dont drink too much water as this can also be dangerous and alcohol should be left alone as this will dehydrate your body further!. and if hes going to be at a club and dancing, to take regular breaks so not to overheat.Health Question & Answer
I think the worst that can happen is serotonin syndrome, which isn't quite "schizophrenia, but serious nonetheless. I'm pretty sure, if ecstasy caused schizophrenia, you couldn't TREAT schizophrenia with it.
And, regarding the answer above mine, yes, it can cause temporary memory lapses, but not permanent like she claims to be suffering, not from doing it once. And I'm not sure what she's going on about spinal fluid for, that has nothing to do with E.
But it sounds to me like you've got a good bit of reading to do before you're ready to actually do the drug. This isn't really something you do without knowing what you're getting into.Health Question & Answer

Ecstasy causes damage to the serotonin receptors in the brain. If enough damage is done, the user will lose the actual ability to feel happiness... joy being nothing more than a chemical reaction in your brain.
Ecstasy won't make you schizophrenic, and one use won't damage your brain all that much, but you can drop dead of a heart attack, stroke, or dehydration the first time you use it. Scary drug. I'd be more likely to snort heroin, myself.Health Question & Answer

I don't know about ecstasy causing schizophrenia but I do know that it drains fluid from your spinal cord. You never get this fluid back. It does effect your memory because I used to have this great memory and since I did E it doesn't seem to be the same.
Not telling you what to do because when I decided to try it no could have changed my mind but now I wish I had just skipped it.Health Question & Answer
