Silicone gel implants have once gain been released by the FDA for cosmetic augmentation (with restrictions) in the US late last year. They are not dangerous per se, but do have more risk than saline-filled implants in that they tend to harden more over time. Saline look about as good as long as you do not go really large and you choose to have them placed underneath the Pectoral muscles.

Last spring my roommate underwent a breast implant procedure and the results look really good so far. Where I live a there are certain surgeons that are better than others. The silicone implants they use now have been used in Europe for many years. They are a cohesive gel, so if you poke a hole in them or cut them in half, the silicone does not leak out. They were approved in the U.S. in 2006.Health Question & Answer
