Answers:
Both RNs and RTs are in short supply in most areas of the country. So either choice should give you good job security. RTs have to deal with a lot of mucus, but then as a nurse, so do I (LOL). In some areas, the pay for RTs may be lower than for RNs, but this varies so check around in your local area.

I love working with and have a great deal of respect for the excellent RTs I work with. They are a valuable part of the healthcare team. As an RN, I like the fact that my degree allows me to work in many different areas. If I no longer wish to work in bedside nursing, as I do now, I can branch out and work in the insurance industry, or in the community, or in management. There are lots of opportunities.

Good luck with whatever career you choose! :-)Health Question & Answer

I agree with the above answer. RT's are great but they are limited in what they can do as far as advancement. Nurses have soooo many choices, if you get tired of one thing you can easily change to something else. Both are badly needed just about everywhere.Health Question & Answer
